颜色 (Colours)

This week we are learning about colours. You may say is easy to teach little ones about colours as there are colours everywhere. But what about in other languages? English is commonly used among us in our country. When it comes to other languages, not so often. Hence, this week we are learning about colours in Chinese.

We started off with reading and saying the colours in Chinese with the colour cards.

Luckily my 2 little ones didn’t get turned off by Chinese. Next, we try to match the Chinese words to its correct colours. They actually know the colours in Chinese but when it comes to word recognition, they still need a little work on that.

Ok, time for a “break” from Chinese words recognition. We had a little game on categorising the items/objects to the right colour cards. They have to read out loud the colour and the object in Chinese. A little bit of a challenge for my girl as we have been speaking in English to her all the while and now she has to translate everything into Chinese for me 😉 As you can guess, the way she speaks is totally “out of tune”. We were laughing non stop when she speaks in Chinese, including herself!

What’s next? Game time of course! I have painted an egg carton with colours and took out the poms poms and toy tongs for them to play with. They had loads of fun sorting out the colours while building and improving their motor skills on grasping.

The next game we have is sorting of mails to its correct coloured mailboxes. We had a little role play here pretending to be a postman delivering mails to our little mailboxes. The kids done a great job on sorting out the mails for me 😉

Finally, we had a drawing and painting session. I gave the kids 2 colours: red and blue, and asked them what they want to draw with the 2 colours. My preschooler suggested a valentine heart and so we did an abstract heart art painting. Can you spot how many heart(s) are there in the 2 paintings?

I am a busy mummy of 2 wonderful kids. Their thirst for learning has made me busy researching and making learning resources/materials for them. Most of the time will be according to the topics that they have requested. Otherwise, I will randomly pick a topic and create the materials for them. Most of the time, the materials will include right brain training as well. From them, I get to learn a lot too! However, material preparation is quite a challenge! It will even be more challenging if you are a working parent! Here, I would love to share what we have done and hope busy parents out there will find our materials useful for their little one. If you have any queries/comments or if you have any topics that you would like to cover with your little one(s), do drop me a message and I will get back to you as soon as I can :) Our mission is to find, discover and reveal the fun of kids learning! Drop us a message if you are interested in any of our materials. Let's make learning fun!
