Weekend fun with family and nature

We love nature and we love spending family time together especially on weekends. Bet most of us treasure the weekends as that’s the time where everyone is available. No school (for some, maybe?) and no work (for some also, maybe?).

Weekend is also a good time to stay away from the hustle and bustle of the city. So where to go? Bukit Timah hill! Mei mei has been pestering us on a hiking trip and so here we go!

We used to hike every weekends till NParks made an announcement on carrying out repair and restoration works to the slopes, trails and forests in the reserve. We stopped going for a period and now we are resuming our hiking trip.

By the way, we do not just walk and walk, the smarties were busy reading every info along the way (lots of pitstops >_<) and exploring the nature. Gor gor will read to mei mei and both will observe and analyse the information they have just gotten.

Very quickly, we reached the summit and both felt tired but satisfied.

Amazingly, they still recall what they did the last time we came especially the incident where they found a huge iguana on the summit. They went on hunting for it when we reached the summit this time round but to no avail.

Instead, they found many monkeys enjoying the view of us, humans. And us enjoying the view of them.

Mei mei wanted to grab one of them and give it a good tight hug but was immediately stopped by me. As much as I love nature and animals, not a tight hug with the monkeys at this point of time, sorry.

Finally accomplished our hike and we were all famished! We proceeded to have a good lunch nearby. We found a bistro serving fried chicken in Korean style: Oven and Fried Chicken. The place was pretty cosy.

We ordered their so called popular dish,Fried Chicken (of course, that’s what they are named for right?!) and a pancake. As soon as the food was served, smarties were fast enough to dig in! The food was delicious. The chicken was superbly crispy throughout our meal time. What we have found out is that they used 100% rice flour instead of wheat to get that crispier texture. Hmm… maybe I can try that at home too…

Hiking: checked!
Satisfying our tummy: checked!

What’s next? HOME OF COURSE!!! Time for a nap to recharge our “battery”. Till then, do stay tuned for our next weekend adventure 😉

I am a busy mummy of 2 wonderful kids. Their thirst for learning has made me busy researching and making learning resources/materials for them. Most of the time will be according to the topics that they have requested. Otherwise, I will randomly pick a topic and create the materials for them. Most of the time, the materials will include right brain training as well. From them, I get to learn a lot too! However, material preparation is quite a challenge! It will even be more challenging if you are a working parent! Here, I would love to share what we have done and hope busy parents out there will find our materials useful for their little one. If you have any queries/comments or if you have any topics that you would like to cover with your little one(s), do drop me a message and I will get back to you as soon as I can :) Our mission is to find, discover and reveal the fun of kids learning! Drop us a message if you are interested in any of our materials. Let's make learning fun!

  1. We love the great outdoor too! Forest and nature trails filter away the high-rise buildings and expressway (for a while). Your kids got walking sticks too, cool 🙂

    cheers, Andy

  2. It’s great you made an effort to bring yr children to enjoy nature regularly. Not easy to keep up but well done! By the way, how did you make the ‘walking sticks’? 🙂

  3. My dad used to bring me for such outings when I was way younger too, and just like the Smarties, I love to read the description and then be very impressed with the flora and fauna. Nature is a really good teacher!
